Standards Activity 2020

Foundation and first publication

Accréditation Sans Frontières (ASF) was legally established in Paris in June 2020 under loi 1901. The International Standards Council held its inaugural meeting in September 2020. The founding mandate — to build a standards-based accreditation system that works in every context from stable health systems to fragile and conflict-affected settings — was formalised in the first edition of the Methodology Manual (ASF-MAN-001-v1).

Hospital Standard — Version 1.0

The Council completed the first edition of the ASF Hospital Standard (ASF-HOSP-STD-v1), covering seven organisational standards applicable to hospitals across four facility categories. The standard underwent a 30-day public consultation in October 2020 and was piloted at one facility in Tbilisi, Georgia. It was published in December 2020. The evidence base drew primarily on WHO quality of care frameworks, JCI hospital standards, and the Georgian State Concept on Health Care Quality.

Governance established

The Council Chair, three founding members, and the first conflict-of-interest procedure were established. All four members submitted initial declarations of interest. No conflicts were identified in the 2020 period. The first Revision Panel composition was approved for the Hospital Standard revision panel.
