The Accreditation Monitor independently verifies that a facility’s self-assessment is honest and evidence-based. This is the quality assurance role at the heart of the ASF system.

What a Monitor Does
- Independently reviews the facility’s self-assessment against observable evidence
- Signs off each criterion as: Verified / Requires Evidence / Disputed
- Submits Q2 Online Verification Report (document review + video call with Coordinator, approximately 3–4 hours)
- Conducts Q4 In-Facility Verification (full day at facility, 100% criteria coverage)
- Attends annual supervision alongside ASF supervisor
- Flags disputes and tracks their resolution through the 5-step dispute pathway
What a Monitor Does Not Do
- Operate or modify the self-assessment tool
- Change self-assessment answers
- Make accreditation decisions
- Provide advisory or consulting services to the facility being assessed (conflict of interest)
The External Monitor as a Career
An External Monitor serving 10 facilities spends approximately 20 in-person days per year on Monitor work — a viable part-time professional role. At 25–30 facilities, it is a full-time practice. Monitors with advanced supervisor training may qualify to conduct annual ASF supervision visits — the full pathway from Monitor to ASF Supervisor.
Certification Pathway
- Training: Complete ASF Monitor Training — 16 hours per facility type, online, delivered in your national language
- Supervised visit: Observe one Q4 in-facility verification alongside a certified Monitor
- Examination: Pass the ASF Monitor Examination with a minimum score of 85%
- Credential issued: AM-XXXXX with facility type designation — valid 2 years, listed in public registry with hire availability status
- Renewal: Every 2 years — 8 CPD hours + evidence of ≥2 active assignments + re-examination
Professional Liability
The Monitor certification agreement includes an explicit professional liability clause. Signing a false verification report triggers credential suspension and formal investigation. Monitors should hold appropriate professional indemnity insurance for their practice.
