ASF Governance & Policy Manual · ASF-POL-45
Environmental Sustainability and Climate (Organisational)
Part of the ASF Governance & Policy Manual. Adapted from the PHIG Institutional Policy Manual (consolidated edition, September 2026).
ASF reduces the environmental footprint of its own operations — travel, hosting, printing — and integrates climate considerations into how it runs, separately from the Sustainable Care criteria ASF publishes for facilities. Owner: ASF Secretariat.
Monitor and Coordinator training is delivered online specifically to minimise travel; in-facility verification travel is the main operational footprint and is scheduled efficiently under the continuous-engagement model.
Commitments
- Travel: online meetings first; rail or shared transport where practical; flights only when the purpose requires.
- Office: energy-efficient equipment, paper-light processes, separated waste and recycling where available.
- Procurement: environmental criteria included in tender evaluation where relevant (ASF-POL-19).
- Events: no single-use plastics where alternatives exist; local suppliers preferred.
An annual summary of ASF’s own travel and energy use is reported to the International Standards Council, with a reduction target set by the Council.
