Surveyors
The three certified roles who run ASF accreditation at every facility — Monitor, Coordinator, and Surveyor. One pathway, growing in responsibility and experience.
Every ASF-accredited facility is independently checked by a certified Monitor, coordinated day-to-day by a certified Coordinator on the ground, with ASF’s most complex cases handled by a senior Surveyor. The three roles form a single certification pathway — Monitor first, Coordinator second, Surveyor only after both plus direct facility experience — and all three are trained, examined, and listed in ASF’s public credential registry, the same model used by national accreditors like Accreditation Canada, built to ASF’s own standard.
The three roles
Monitor
The entry certification. Independent verification methodology — reviewing evidence, conducting in-facility visits, and signing off against the standard. Can be trained together with Coordinator.
Coordinator
Builds on Monitor training with hands-on facility leadership — collecting evidence every quarter, maintaining the evidence file, and keeping a facility’s own accreditation cycle moving.
Surveyor
The senior role, reached through Coordinator or Monitor experience. Handles disputed findings, Crisis/Transitional facilities, and first-in-country assessments.
Which one is for you?
New to ASF certification? Start with Monitor Certification — ASF’s entry pathway, covering the verification methodology every certified role builds on, whether you plan to verify internally (your own facility) or externally (multiple facilities).
Want to lead your own facility’s accreditation cycle too? Add Coordinator Certification — it can be trained together with Monitor, or added afterward once you hold direct facility experience.
Already certified as both Monitor and Coordinator, with direct hospital experience? You may be ready for the Surveyor pathway — ASF’s senior role for the most complex assessments, open only once both certifications and facility experience are in place.
